Hello, my dear! Colombia is one of the largest countries in South America, and there are a lot of Colombia vacation spots around it.
Villa de Leyva, Boyaca and Manizales, Caldas are two of them; there is a lot of diversity in history, food, coffee, and much more.
So, I hope this wonderful trip inspires you to discover Colombia tourism, spots, and new marvelous stories and experiences there.
Things to do in Bogota Colombia: Food and History.
This journey began in Bogota. My flights and transportation were for the next two days, so I decided to discover Bogota and find places to visit in Colombia.
As soon as we arrived from the airport to our friend’s house and unpacked we went to a typical Colombian restaurant called Andres Carnes de Res. Let me say… What an experience!
Good Colombian music and food are the perfect mixes to enjoy life! I did so; I ate Colombian empanadas & picada (a mix of meat including chicharron, bistec and chorizo) while listening to typical music. It felt like home and filled our hearts and stomachs for the next adventure: Boyaca bridge.
Without losing a minute, we took the highway and drove one hour and a half to arrive at the national monument… That is one of the best things to do in Bogota Colombia.
Being there, you breathe history air, and you learn too much about Colombia’s history and reflect on what our liberators did for us! Perfect as one of the Colombia vacation spots for pictures.
By the way, the bridge was smaller than I thought.
On our way back to the city, we ate in La Chula Restaurant Bar. It is a Mexican Restaurant with live music.
What can I say about Mexican food? It is just fantastic! And there were Mariachis that night, so a whole Mexican experience in Bogota.
Family Vacation on Villa de Leyva
After the Bogota short trip, we went to Villa de Leyva. One of the best places to vacation in Colombia. Mainly because there was recorded a part of the Netflix series “Bolivar,” I had to be there.
Like Bogota, Villa de Leyva was full of fun and memorable moments. This is a small colonial town, but you must visit many magical Colombia tourism places.
One of the first things that I did there was to take a ride on a quad bike in “Pozos Azules.” I can say that this is a pure adrenaline experience, but also a moment to enjoy and have fun, unforgettable.
In addition, we went to the chocolate museum, where I wanted to eat everything inside it! I mean, who doesn’t love chocolate?
And talking about food, we tasted two stunning places. One is a cake shop called “La Galleta.” This place has amazing desserts that you must taste if you go there, but also is very famous for mille-feuille, the best in Colombia, but I’d say the best in the world. Alongside the desert’s flavors, the relaxing ambiance put a plus to this family vacation.
Now, if you go to Villa de Leyva, you must eat at “Casa San Pedro.” An open space to enjoy a very high-level dish and enjoy the night. In my case, I ate pasta à la routa. Full of cheese, I can say with a property that it is the best pasta in the world (well, at least in Colombia), so you can miss it.
Finally, on this Colombia tourism day, we went to sleep. Iconic and relaxing night at “Amonita Huespedes.” There is a very colorful and unique hotel with a lot of nature. I can swear you will sleep like a baby. As a plus, with the room at night, it includes breakfast.
Manizales: A perfect Colombia tourism day.
After those magic moments in Villa the Leyva, it was time to take our last part of this trip: Manizales (we took a flight to Manizales from Bogota).
What short but powerful moments that I lived there. I went to the Cathedral in the city’s historic downtown. There is a magnificent viewer where you can see the whole city. One of the best Colombia vacation spots on my trip, without a doubt.
Once again, as in Bogota, we were hungry and had some friends in the city, so we called them and went to Bretton, a very excellent top restaurant.
Eating there is a complete experience, from the ambiance that makes you feel like a superstar to the food and views. Yeah, it has another worldview in the afternoons, and it needs to be on your schedule if you go to Manizales.
Even when my time in Manizales was short, I can say that it is one of the best places to visit in Colombia because I haven’t mentioned it yet, but it is in the coffee part of the country, so there are many things to do about this.
My adventure is over, but now is your turn… Are you planning a Colombia vacation? Or have you been there before?
Let me know in the comments.
